My Path to Get Here

After I exited my last business, I spent 12 months figuring out what I wanted to do next.
I thought about going back to a regular job, being a consultant, or even starting another business.
But with some soul searching, lots of conversations, and the Clifton StrengthsFinder test, I’ve come to accept that I’m happiest helping people solve problems or making good things even better.
I also like new challenges, so having multiple projects appeals to me. And I often serve as a bridge between technical and creative people, like a translator.
The most obvious match for my strengths, experiences, and skills became clear:
→ A Fractional COO.
I love that it means I get to…
— Interview and observe team leaders and members (as many as possible)
— Identify cross-functional challenges
— Outline priorities
— Create a robust roadmap that the CEO can actually use
— Help smart people commercialize their great ideas
I also have a support system of other fractional executives, advisors, and coaches, so I’m not alone. It’s the perfect fit.
I can use the skills I developed in business school, at Disney, and as Co-Founder and COO (an end-of-life business dedicated to bringing people together after the loss of a loved one).
I’m glad I took that time to really figure out what my next career move would be. It means I can intentionally build this next phase step by step.
How did you figure out what you wanted to do next?
