Most business owners I meet want to fix a few things first.

Before the consultant.
Before the investor.
Before anyone sees behind the curtain.
I understand that feeling.
I do it too.
When things feel messy, it is easier to hide than to ask for help.
We tell ourselves we will get more organized, find the time, or wait for the perfect moment.
But that moment rarely comes.
At home, I have the same habit.
When the house is too messy, my instinct is to cancel the cleaning person.
Avoid having friends over.
Postpone the dinner party indefinitely.
I tell myself I will deal with it later, but it just gets worse.
During COVID, someone stayed at our house to watch the dog.
In a simple trade, she organized the whole place while we were gone.
We offered room and board.
She gave us calm cabinets.
It was humbling and freeing.
She did not judge the mess.
She simply helped me get through what I could not on my own.
That is what we all need sometimes.
A clear pair of eyes.
A thought partner with a fresh perspective.
Someone who can help us make sense of what feels overwhelming.
If you have been waiting until things are more organized before asking for help, you are not alone.
Most people wait too long.
